A Widow Becomes an Income Earner
A widow's dignity is restored when she doesn't feel like a burden to her family.
Upasana* is a widow. After her husband died, she lived with her daughter’s in-laws in Dadpur Village. Her daughter has a young son. The total number of members in their family is four. They are a poor family, and after living for a long time in her daughter’s in-laws’ house, she felt like a burden because she could not earn any income for her daughter’s family.
The Transformational Community Development (TCD) project committees in the village often visited the families and shared TCD topics through meetings. One day, with the help of the TCD committee, she bought two sheep. She raised the sheep with great care. The sheep grew and gave birth to lambs. Now Upasana has become an income-earner and is very happy to be able to contribute to her daughter’s family. She expressed gratitude to the TCD project. She wants to multiply her flock and now is very busy raising sheep.
This month, the TCD committee also encouraged the village members and parents of pre-primary school students through a meeting. TCD staff also attended the meeting. In that meeting, the committee advised them to regularly send their children to school and shared with them the importance of education. They also encouraged them to regularly save money in the savings group. Now a very nice committee is leading their own village.
*For the purpose of safety and wellbeing, “Upasana” is a pseudonym for the individual being helped by this project.
Thank you!
