School Gives Children Purpose and Hope

Left unsupervised to play all day, these children’s lives changed when their parents embraced education.

Before the Transformational Community Development (TCD) program in Katuwaghat Village started, the education situation was very sad. No children were sent to school. The children were very backward and they spent their days playing at home and sometimes fighting. The parents would go to work for others, and the children would spend the whole day playing in the dust and dirt. The parents did not understand the importance of education, and that the children would not be able to see a bright future without education.

When TCD started in Katuwaghat, awareness about education started to spread. The villagers realized the importance of sending their children to school and school changed the children. After knowing the great importance of education from TCD, now the children are being sent to school regularly and diligently.

Seeing this, other communities are also surprised and have learnt a big lesson about the importance of educating children. Seeing the Mushar and Paswan communities sending their children to school, other communities are also impressed and inspired. TCD has brought a great change in the field of education today. The community, as well as other communities, is happily thanking the GHNI organisation.

Transformational Community Development (TCD) Update

TCD© is GHNI’s coaching-based process for helping villages transform themselves and break the cycle of extreme poverty.

Education

This month I have encouraged community members to write addresses and names of five women and encouraged a children’s group to study better and achieve good results in their coming exam, and a very good, positive result is that children are going to school regularly in this month.

Food

I taught community members this month about eating more fruits and about the condition of the members of our community. Some subjects were taught again and again because they saw that the members of the community kept eating  more oil and spices. So they were taught about how the vitamins found in fruits bring benefits to the body. They learned about vitamins found in fruits like pomegranate, banana, orange, apple, cucumber, etc.

Income

I taught about Income Generation since it is time to harvest the rice paddy. If the community members are encouraged to store and eat rice throughout the year, the economy will increase and money will be saved, and it will make them stand on their own feet and become self-sustainable. Also, many families have got multiple goats and cows.

Water

The lessons taught this month were about water. I taught 13 people in the community how to clean their homes, and I also taught children’s groups about water that is good for the body and how drinking clean water helps fight disease.

Wellness

I personally went to meet a mother about how to clean her newborn baby and about the services provided. They are getting vaccinated, and I taught them how many months to take the leprosy medicine.
