Training Leads to Multiplication

Development is multiplying across Myanmar by training leaders from surrounding communities.

An indoor Training of Trainers lesson at Myanmar. - Training Leads to Multiplication

The Training of Trainers 1 (ToTCD1) for Mro-Khumi leaders stands as a defining milestone of 2025. This training has opened a promising gateway to 20 communities on the outskirts of Yangon, equipping 15 passionate leaders with the vision and skills necessary to catalyze local transformation. The collaborative effort of the facilitating team was exceptional, as they pooled diverse skill sets to ensure every participant could maximize their learning potential. For those working in the high-pressure environments of IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camps, this training offered a much-needed roadmap to navigate the transition from relief to sustainable development.

A key strength of this session was the complementary expertise of the facilitators, Michelle and JB. Michelle utilized his western worldview to provide a unique lens on how “Worldview and Development” interact, helping participants deconstruct obstacles to progress. JB brought vital, recent experience from the field, having led relief efforts in Sagaing and Mandalay following the earthquake. His insights into the bridge between disaster rehabilitation and long-term Transformational Development (TCD) principles were invaluable for leaders currently managing crisis-affected communities. Moving beyond theory, the training included a hands-on workshop on building Bio-sand water filtration systems, ensuring that these leaders left not just with ideas, but with the practical ability to provide clean water to their villages.

The enthusiasm of the participants was matched by the vision of the training host, who recognized that these TCD principles could influence the broader Mro-Khumi national identity. The host intentionally kept the lesson flipcharts displayed for a subsequent gathering of over 50 Mro leaders, believing that seeing these strategies would shift their perspective during discussions on national identity and future development. One participant summarized the sentiment of the group: “This training is so helpful. It reinforces my service to the community and shows us how to meet our basic needs through practical techniques.” Overall, the ToTCD 1 was a resounding success, marked by active participation and a fierce commitment to multiplying these lessons across Myanmar.
