By adopting innovative farming techniques, a mother transformed her struggling family farm into a thriving source of income and security for her children.
Mama Sao is a widow whose four children have struggled with her on her small farm for the past five years. Despite their hard work, they have seen little improvement in their harvests. After participating in Transformational Community Development (TCD) lessons, she was able to acquire some much needed training on innovative farming techniques, use of locally sourced manures, and community support. She was taught these simple farming techniques during the monthly TCD meetings and within the period of a year she and her family began to see significant improvements in crop yield. She is now better able to take care of her children, finance their education, and ensure they do not go hungry. Her maize farm continues to be an example of the growth possible when TCD’s agriculture principles are implemented.
