Peas, Please!
One man's pioneering new crop opens a new path of financial stability for his community.
For many years in the Transformational Community Development (TCD) village of Baribeda, no crops were grown during the cool season, after the main crop was harvested. Most of the agricultural land remained unused. As a result, farmers were missing out on additional income during that period. Seeing this situation, the TCD committee encouraged farmers to use their fields in the cool season to grow new crops. At that time, no farmer was willing to take the risk. They were afraid of failure because they had no experience.
But Etawar, a courageous farmer, decided to try a new type of crop. He became the first person in the village to plant something new. He chose to grow small peas, which was the first time something like small peas was planted in Baribeda Village. When others saw his work, they followed his example. His initiative brought new thinking and confidence to the village. Thus, the effort of one farmer paved the way for the economic progress of the whole village.
Thank you,
