From Struggling to Self-Sufficient
Mr. John transformed from a struggling laborer into a self-sufficient farmer.
Through the Transformational Community Development (TCD) project, Mr. John’s family has transitioned from a life of extreme vulnerability to one of economic independence and leadership in the Old Mosongo community. Before he began to actively participate in TCD, Mr. John, a 45-year-old father of 3 children and no wife, had been struggling to survive as a sporadic farm laborer and primary school teacher. He often earned barely enough to provide a single meal for his family.
As he continued to learn through the TCD meetings, Mr. John acquired knowledge to boost his rice-growing activities. With this support, he was able to expand his farm to include half an acre of potatoes and groundnuts, yielding sufficient harvest to enable him to reinvest in the next season. Mr. John is now able to meet his family’s basic needs and pay school fees for his children.
Beyond improving Mr. John’s own farm, he has become an advocate for modern farming techniques, sharing his knowledge and success story with other men and participants of TCD in Old Mosongo. He wants to help others to better their lives and eventually develop the community, moving from grass-thatched huts to modern housing.
Thank you!
