Longa and his wife, Damaris, were initially skeptical when the GHNI team arrived in their village. However, that did not keep them from joining the Transformational Community Development (TCD) meetings out of curiosity. They now have a changed life and a new mindset.
Before the TCD program, Longa and Damaris had to spend a lot of money to purchase water during the dry season. After the community came together to solve their water problem, Longa and Damaris now enjoy water year-round in their home. They have money to spend on other necessities and they feel healthier now that they can bathe routinely.
Then the swine flu pandemic hit the area. This erased their source of income. Once again, the village TCD committee and the GHNI training team came together, working hard to find solutions for Income Generation. Longa and Damaris, along with their neighbors, are now learning how to breed and raise ducks for income. Their TCD mindset has driven them to be courageous to try new things and persevere until they succeed. Longa and Damaris are thankful that they were wrong about TCD in the beginning.
Transformational Community Development (TCD) Update
TCD© is GHNI’s coaching-based process for helping villages transform themselves and break the cycle of extreme poverty.
Water
After the ECHO training, the Mawa community became interested in filtering their water for drinking. There are 15 households preparing to apply what they have learned.
Income
Income Generation from the duck program is still being assessed as the participants learn the business and how to keep records.
Thank you,
