A Vibrant Culture of Learning
The community of Kiwanjani have discovered a key component to breaking the poverty cycle–Education.
In the Kiwanjani community, education was once a distant dream for many children. With no reliable infrastructure, under-resourced classrooms, and frequent absenteeism, the future looked uncertain. Everything began to change when the community embraced Transformational Community Development (TCD). Through TCD, local leaders, parents, and youth came together to prioritize education as a key to breaking the cycle of poverty. Together, they renovated classrooms, initiated a community school feeding program, and organized volunteer-led after-school tutoring—all driven by local ownership and commitment.
The results have been remarkable. School enrollment has risen by 45%, dropout rates have significantly decreased, and more girls are now staying in school. Parents have taken an active role in managing the school and mentoring students, and the sense of shared responsibility has fostered a vibrant culture of learning. What was once a struggling village school is now a beacon of possibility, led by a community that chose to invest in its children’s future. Through TCD, Kiwanjani was able to graduate 13 students to secondary school. Their initiative has not just improved education—it has ignited a lifelong transformation powered by its own people.
Thank you!
