De-escalating emotional instances is an important skill being taught throughout communities.
Ms. Umm Nimr, a participant in the Transformational Community Development (TCD) group, recounted an incident that occurred in her neighborhood. A dispute broke out between her children and the children of her neighbors. The situation escalated until a neighbor intervened and directed insulting and inappropriate language at her. Umm Nimr Sayed shared, “Before participating in the TCD program, I would have responded in the same way. The dispute would have escalated, turning into a major problem that would have required police intervention and possibly led to imprisonment.”
However, through her participation in the TCD program, she learned the importance of self-control and thinking wisely before reacting. She added, “I decided to remain calm and not respond violently to the insults. I decided to give them time to calm down so we can reconcile.”
This situation reflects how TCD tools can help individuals manage emotions and de-escalate tensions, promoting community peace and sparing families from unnecessary legal trouble.
