One of the lessons offered in the Transformational Community Development (TCD) program was about relationships and how to deal with problems. Umm Sharif shared, “I have neighbors in the house next door, and they always get into trouble. My neighbor would sometimes say hurtful things to me, and that created a poor relationship. After listening to the lesson in the TCD class, I decided to start dealing with her calmly and tried not to focus on the words that upset me but rather to be a source of peace, not a source of quarrel.”

Umm Sharif decided to start a new chapter with her neighbor and initiate peace. The lesson demonstrated that relationships can improve if we change the way we interact. The group was encouraged to take practical steps to improve their relationships.

Through the lesson and discussion, we learned that the solution begins with listening calmly, trying to understand the other party, and choosing appropriate words instead of using hurtful ones. If someone says something hurtful, it’s better to respond kindly or remain silent and let the situation pass rather than getting into a quarrel. To break the cycle of conflict, we need to initiate peace, even if the other party doesn’t. In important situations that require wisdom, we can turn to someone we trust to help us in reconciliation. Most importantly, we work towards a heart filled with peace and love so that we can live in peace with people.
