When barriers to schooling meet community action, lives—and futures—can change.
In Elwapathar Village, in the Alinagar area of our Transformational Community Development (TCD) cluster, many children were out of school. Some were unwilling to attend, while others stayed home because their parents were either uninterested or unaware of the importance of education. Several children were engaged in household responsibilities, including caring for younger siblings. Additionally, a significant administrative barrier existed with many children lacking the necessary documentation required for school admission. This combination of social, motivational, and procedural challenges created a cycle of educational exclusion and undisciplined lifestyles among the children.
The TCD committee addressed the issue through structured community engagement. During regular committee meetings, members discussed practical strategies for increasing school enrollment and strengthening parental involvement. They conducted awareness sessions as well as door-to-door visits to educate parents about the long-term value of schooling. Committee members personally encouraged families to send their children to school. To overcome documentation barriers, TCD volunteers actively assisted parents in preparing and securing the required documents. This hands-on administrative support removed a major obstacle to enrollment.
As a result of these combined efforts, five children were successfully admitted to school. They are now attending regularly. Noticeable behavioral changes have followed. Before enrollment, many of these children displayed undisciplined habits due to the lack of a structured routine. After joining school, they have become more disciplined, responsible, and motivated. This progress demonstrates that when awareness, community leadership, and practical support come together, transformation becomes possible.
Education does not merely place a child in a classroom—it reshapes character, builds discipline, and opens doors to a brighter future. Small steps taken today can create lasting change for generations to come.
