New Healthy Habits
Through TCD training, Daniel transformed his family’s understanding of health and sanitation.
In Saraswatipur, open defecation remained a common practice due to a lack of hygiene awareness, long-standing habits, and financial difficulties in building hygiene infrastructure. Daniel, one of the committee members, initially did not see the need for a household toilet and faced challenges in understanding the link between sanitation, health, and dignity.
Daniel’s perspective changed after learning from the Transformational Community Development (TCD) lessons during the Wellness Committee training. These sessions helped him realize the importance of proper sanitation for his family’s well-being. Motivated by this new understanding, he and his family decided to build their own toilet. Despite financial obstacles, Daniel remained committed, and with his family’s support, they put all savings and the bonus money received once a year into completing the project. He completed their bathroom construction through determination and careful effort.
Today, Daniel’s family no longer practices open defecation and feels safer, cleaner, and more confident. His initiative has become a source of inspiration for some villagers. After witnessing his progress and understanding the benefits, many other families in Saraswatipur are now planning to construct their own toilets. This positive momentum marks a significant step toward creating a healthier, cleaner, and more self-reliant community.
Thank you,
