In Al Dawadia, Upper Egypt, local leaders partnered with GHNI to launch Transformational Community Development - building income, education, and lasting health for families trapped in extreme poverty.

In Al Dawadia, a village in Upper Egypt suffering from severe health issues and extreme poverty, local leaders reached out to GHNI after hearing about the success of Transformational Community Development (TCD) in neighboring areas. Over the initial six months of engagement, GHNI’s training team held community awareness meetings, established a preliminary TCD committee, and identified a local “TCD hero” to lead the charge across the five core elements of TCD: Food, Water, Income Generation, Education, and Wellness. This collective action began by directly targeting prevalent community health crises, specifically the spread of anemia and worms. As the community continues to respond enthusiastically, the program is actively expanding to help families establish new streams of Income Generation, build local capacity to reduce preventable diseases, and create better Education opportunities for Al Dawadia’s children.
