In Al-Koom al-Ahmar, Upper Egypt, GHNI is partnering with local leaders through Transformational Community Development to expand education for neglected children, strengthen community health, and open pathways out of extreme poverty.

In Al-Koom al-Ahmar, a village in Upper Egypt plagued by severe health problems and extreme poverty, children were historically neglected, with many missing school to work in subsistence agriculture. After assessing the region for four years, GHNI officially launched its Transformational Community Development (TCD) program in January 2024, partnering with an enthusiastic local champion and community leaders to target the five core elements of TCD: Food, Water, Income Generation, Education, and Wellness. Over its first six months, the training team mobilized the village through community awareness meetings and began forming a dedicated local committee. Rapid progress followed with the launch of a targeted Children Development Program serving thirty-five local youth, alongside specialized health classes empowering forty village women. These trained female volunteers now conduct proactive home visits to share vital hygiene and preventative healthcare practices across the community, successfully working to reduce disease, boost Education opportunities, and lay the foundation for new sustainable streams of Income Generation.
