One girl has rediscovered her joy, making beautiful clothing and new friends.
Manal joined the Transformational Community Development (TCD) sewing class at House of Ruth reluctantly, pushed by her mother, who hoped it would lift her spirits. Manal was deeply sad and preferred to keep her personal struggles private, though her sadness was apparent to everyone. The sewing teacher even asked her if she had lost a loved one, sensing that Manal seemed on the brink of tears.
At first, Manal was quiet and withdrawn, her emotions hidden behind a face of silence, but as the sewing classes progressed, something began to change. She slowly started to open up, sharing stories and even laughing with her classmates. The act of sewing and the supportive environment of the class began to lift her mood.
By the end of the course, Manal’s transformation was remarkable. She had found a sense of joy and purpose in creating beautiful clothes. Each piece she made was a testament to her ability and worth. Manal felt that sewing had given her a new sense of self, helping her rediscover her own value and potential.
TCD© is GHNI’s coaching-based process for helping villages transform themselves and break the cycle of extreme poverty.
Amal and Mohammad are working tirelessly to support their family, and we couldn’t be more excited to help! We decided to start a TCD program with them, so we gifted them two goats, allowing them to sell milk and make cheese for extra income. During our recent visit, we were thrilled to discover that one of the goats is pregnant, which means even more growth ahead! They’ve already started selling milk, bringing in money and joy to their family. It’s amazing to see how this initiative can help not just them, but potentially other families too!
Thank you!
