Spreading Gratitude and Encouragement
Gratitude can change a person’s perspective and make an immense difference in attitude.
Ms. Nardine leads the teenage girls’ class, and one of the effective ways she uses to prepare leaders for the future is not only health, psychological, social, and moral lessons, but she has become a personal friend to each girl as she goes out with them, eats with them, encourages them to succeed in all aspects of life, and prepares them to be leaders in Transformational Community Development (TCD) classes. Two of the girls, Nancy and Sarah, are providing TCD lessons to children, which makes the program spread quickly and become more effective.
We continued to provide TCD lessons for a group of women, and Umm George shared her circumstances and illness. “I was complaining and dissatisfied with being sick and the chemotherapy sessions that I was undergoing every week in the hospital. I always used to say, ‘Why is all this happening to me?’ After I was in the TCD group and the lesson was about gratitude, my thoughts and feelings began to change. I began to be thankful despite the pain. I began to change from a life of repeated complaining to a life of contentment with the reality that I live in, trusting there would be healing for me. I am thankful despite the pain, and I am encouraged to complete the chemotherapy sessions without complaining.”
Thank you,
