“Regarding the Mawa Transformational Community Development (TCD) project, what are you thankful for and what have been your challenges?” These are the two questions that a GHNI trainer asked to the Mawa village TCD Committee as they met together to evaluate progress. The committee expressed the thankfulness in their hearts for the TCD Income Generation program where they have learned a new trade, raising ducks for a protein source and income.

Committee members went on to talk about the exhaustion that they have felt at times, nearly losing their patience with their neighbors as they strive to keep them motivated. Yet, the consistent stream of TCD moral lessons always help keep them going when they feel like giving up. Discussing traits of selflessness and perseverance help give them energy to keep encouraging their community to grow together toward a better future. Coincidentally, the training team had already prepared the TCD lesson for that day entitled “Serving One Another”. As the topic was discussed in the community, a committee member said, “This is exactly what we are experiencing and what we need to hear.”

Committee members then returned to their homes with renewed enthusiasm, ready to face another day of challenges in the common effort to lift themselves out of poverty.
