A Substantial Harvest

Looking to meet his family’s daily needs, one man combines the TCD trainings on income diversity and farming techniques.

Ngassa villager, Marabu, planting seeds in the soil. - A Substantial Harvest

Marabu is a picture of self-reliance and financial independence thanks to the introduction of Transformational Community Development (TCD) to his community at Ngassa. In the past, he experienced some difficulty in generating enough produce from his millet farm to sustain his family, but in recent times he learned about the use of organic fertilizers and is now making personal progress. He aims to harvest a substantial amount of millet, which he can sell to meet his family’s daily needs. During the previous TCD meeting, Marabu also learned how to diversify his income sources by selling other items like kulikuli (hardened peanut cakes) and fish so he and his family do not suffer between farming and harvesting seasons.

In the course of this first quarter, it was also reported that the TCD champions attempted to mobilize children in the community to attend lessons even though they currently have poor educational facilities. Leadership wanted to pique their interest in developing themselves and their community at large.

There was also a special session on Income Generation during this first quarter. During the February TCD meeting, Rosyn was invited to train them on ways to process their farm produce into easily marketable items like massa and pap.

Thank you!
