Motivation Through Empowerment

The children of Kiwanjani Village were empowered and inspired to quit drugs and focus on their education.

A Ntulili classroom with a perfect attendance. - Motivation Through Empowerment

Ntuli Primary School has been facing a growing concern—many teenagers are struggling with drug abuse, changes in behavior, and declining academic performance. Teachers and parents noticed students becoming more withdrawn, aggressive, and disengaged from their studies. The school administration reached out for help to our team, recognizing the urgent need for intervention. We accepted and moved as a Transformational Community Development (TCD) team. We visited Ntuli Primary with a mission to guide, inspire, and empower these students toward positive change. Our approach focused on two key areas: counseling and awareness on drug abuse along with character development and academic motivation.

We held interactive sessions where students openly shared their struggles and experiences with drug use. Experts explained the dangers of substance abuse, its impact on health, relationships, and future opportunities, and former addicts who had turned their lives around shared powerful testimonies, offering hope and real-life lessons.

We also encouraged students to reflect on their goals and dreams, emphasizing how good character and discipline shape a successful future. Activities and role-playing exercises helped them understand the importance of respect, responsibility, and resilience, while we provided practical study techniques and mentorship to help students improve their academic performance.

By the end of the sessions, many students expressed a renewed sense of purpose. Some admitted they hadn’t realized the long-term effects of their choices. Teachers observed a shift in attitude, with students showing more engagement in class and a willingness to seek help. A few students even took the bold step of committing to quitting drugs and focusing on their education.

To sustain this transformation, we encouraged continued mentorship, parental involvement, and peer support groups within the school. Our team remains connected with Ntuli Primary, ensuring the seeds of change we planted continue to grow.
