Belonging Heals Deep Wounds
Community care can bring hope, healing, and a sense of belonging to those facing deep personal challenges.
This month, we were able to help 150 children with a bag of school supplies, and all the children were overjoyed. One child named Shenouda came and told the Transformational Community Development (TCD) group that his mother passed away a month ago. He needed a bag and couldn’t find anyone to buy him one for school. He was very happy with the bag he got and said, “I am very happy that you remembered me. Even if my mother left me and went away, you are with me.”
A TCD lesson about how to accept, love, and appreciate oneself, and also how to accept others even if they are different from us, led to improvement in one woman’s mental health. A week after the lesson, Mrs. Narjes came to tell her story and said that she was thinking about committing suicide because she hated her life and hated everyone around her. A major reason was because her husband’s mistreatment made her feel worthless and unacceptable. After she heard the lesson, she was sure that she has importance, value, and acceptance. She began to accept herself and focus on the advantages and positives in her personality. She is now working on accepting herself, others, and even her husband, in spite of all of his faults.
Thank you,
