When the Training of Trainers TCD1 class visited households, they were able to help families transform their lives.
We continue to conduct Transformational Community Development (TCD) classes and activities regularly. This month, we implemented a TOTCD 1 Training at Sharha Village in Dinajpur District. As people witness these activities, many are inspired to join TCD and desire transformation in their own villages and communities.
When the TCD committee visits households, they encounter a variety of challenges—family struggles, health concerns, and economic hardships. During this quarter, they identified five families facing serious water issues.
1. Two families did not have tubewells and had to collect drinking water daily from neighbors—an exhausting task.
2. Three families had tubewells in poor condition, where dirty water pooled at the base.
Through the TCD project, these families received 90% support, while they contributed 10% themselves. As a result, two families now have new tubewells, and three families have repaired and paved tubewells. Today, all five families are free from water-related struggles.
Among the families impacted, Sagnik’s* household experienced remarkable change. Sagnik, his wife, and their daughter live a simple life, relying on his income as a daily wage laborer. For years, they had little knowledge of healthy living. Their toilet was a raw, makeshift structure with a constant foul smell. During the rainy season, water stagnated around it, attracting flies and mosquitoes. Their daughter frequently fell ill with stomach problems, but they never understood the cause.
After TCD education was introduced in their village, the local TCD committee began teaching about the five key areas of transformation. During a household visit, they explained how poor sanitation was spreading disease in Sonaram’s family. This opened his eyes—he realized that their unhygienic toilet and stagnant water were the root causes of repeated sickness.
Motivated to change, Sagnik first tried building a simple tin toilet. But with limited resources, it wasn’t sufficient. Later, with the help of the TCD project, a hygienic concrete toilet was constructed for his family.
Now, their toilet no longer leaks, there is no stagnant water, the fly infestation has reduced, and the foul odor is gone. Most importantly, his daughter is much healthier than before. Sagnik now understands the importance of cleanliness and good health practices.
Grateful for the education and support, he shares, “We never knew that simple hygiene could bring such big changes to our family. We are thankful to the TCD project for helping us live a healthier life.”
This story reflects how TCD is not only solving practical problems like sanitation and water, but also transforming mindsets, families, and entire communities.
Thank you!
