Paying Knowledge Forward
Ruth is growing her garden and her income!
Ruth, a 32-year-old mother of three from a rural village in the Kori Chiefdom Moyamba District, southern Province of Sierra Leone, recently benefited from our Transformational Community Development (TCD) farming project. Before the project, Ruth struggled to grow enough food for her family due to limited access to quality seeds, farming techniques, and drought-prone land.
With TCD’s support, Ruth received training in climate-smart agriculture, drought-resistant crops, and drip irrigation techniques. She also received help establishing a small vegetable garden with cassava, groundnuts, and peppers. In just one season, Ruth’s harvest tripled. Her family now has food on the table year-round, and she sells surplus produce at the local market in Mokonde Njala, earning Le 500,00 (about $20) monthly.
“The TCD project changed everything,” Ruth said. “I can feed my kids, pay school fees, and even save a bit. I will teach others in the village what I learned.”
Thank you!
