Maryam is an 11-year-old Nubian girl from Adandan Nubian Village who recently joined a Transformational Community Development (TCD) group. Like many children, she wanted to do what was right but did not always understand how honesty applies to everyday situations. When the group taught a lesson on honesty, Maryam discovered that honesty is not only about big decisions but also about the small moments that happen daily at home, in the street, and at school. She realized that sometimes she had not paid attention to how her actions affected others.

During the lesson, the children were given a four-week challenge to record moments when they acted honestly and times when they felt they could have done better. Each child received a weekly tracking sheet. Maryam committed to the challenge for the full four weeks. She began helping at home with sincerity, telling the truth at school, and acting honestly with people around her. Over time, she noticed that people trusted her more and appreciated her behavior. At the end of the activity, Maryam happily said, “I’m happy that I help people with honesty, and everyone is happy with me.”

Maryam’s journey shows how a simple lesson can transform a child’s behavior and plant the value of honesty in a way that positively impacts the whole community.
