Village Surveys Spark Interest
Multiplication from a model village to surrounding villages is a goal of TCD.
True transformation is meant to be contagious. After several years of improvement in mindset change, Water access, and Income Generation, the Mawa community is preparing to wrap up their Transformational Community Development (TCD) program this year, having been equipped to pursue a brighter future independently. Meanwhile, the GHNI team along with the Mawa TCD committee members are looking to expand the impact to the broader region.
To this end, they conducted surveys in surrounding village clusters, sharing TCD principles and identifying communities that are open and ready to launch transformation projects. During their travels, they came across the village of Tamo and met with local leaders.
TCD is not always an attractive proposition to communities that are accustomed to short-term aid projects that pour outside resources into perceived areas of need. However Fariq*, the Tamo village leader, has long heard stories about the transformation that has been happening in Mawa, and warmly welcomed the survey party. After lengthy discussions regarding TCD principles, Fariq and Maliki*, another influential person in the area, showed great interest and decided to share what they learned with the Tamo community and then followed-up again with the GHNI team to determine next steps. It is an exciting prospect to see potential expansion of TCD in this needy area. Will transformation continue to spread in the region? Stay tuned to find out!
*For the purpose of safety and wellbeing, “Fariq” and “Maliki”, are pseudonyms for the individuals being helped by this project.
