Sharing the Source
Having a clean water source is allowing members of the community to seek out new sources of income.
The Ngassa Community, which has historically faced severe challenges due to a lack of accessible water, has experienced a significant positive transformation thanks to the borehole dug by Transformational Community Development (TCD) members. It is reported that the donated borehole continues to be a reliable source of clean, drinkable water. The members of the community take pride in maintaining the facility as it meets a very crucial need for its members and their livestock. Some people from neighboring regions come with containers to fetch some of the provided water because of the sanitary environment where the borehole is situated and the purity of its water compared to other water sources in the region.
Previously, community members, particularly women and children, had to travel considerable distances—often miles—to collect water. This arduous daily task consumed valuable time and energy, impacting education, health, and economic activities. The new water project initiative has effectively eliminated this burden, bringing water directly to the community.
This vital project has successfully addressed the long-standing issue of water scarcity, providing residents with reliable access to clean water for both drinking and domestic use. Sustainable development is gradually taking hold in the region as the locals take responsibility for the project, see its value, and plan towards having more projects, as they continue to work together.
An additional positive is we also now have women who generate income by themselves through trading. This was not the case in times past. The coming of TCD has changed a lot about Ngassa.
Thank you!
