Locals in Attakasikoro, who have been enjoying access to health care from Doctor Kouassi and three nurses in the village’s small clinic, may not have it as good in the future. The clinic, which was set up by Dr. Kouassi as a nonprofit, has been co-funded by him and locals who pay subsidized medical bills in order to keep it running. They are now suffering from a lack of funds.
The clinic may be forced to close down as Dr. Kouassi now finds it extremely difficult to restock medications and pay the three nurses that run shifts at the clinic. Besides the locals, others who will be negatively impacted by the closure of the clinic are victims of motorcycle crashes at a major intersection about one kilometer from the village (at least six crashes are recorded weekly). Victims are usually rushed to the clinic for first aid treatment before referral to the hospital, if necessary. While Teti, our Transformational Community Development (TCD) worker, Dr. Kouassi, and the locals are brainstorming about internal funding for the clinic, they are also saying, “The clinic needs urgent help!”
Thank you!
