Rince is a mother of two children whose husband works periodically as a day laborer when opportunities are available. Rince used to help take care of the pigs of a wealthy landowner from the city until a swine flu pandemic resulted in the death of all pigs in the entire area. She told the GHNI team that at that point, she had lost all hope.

In the words of Rince: “I am grateful that the Transformational Community Development (TCD) trainers walked through this difficult time with my family and me. As a wife and mother, I was so stressed with my husband being unemployed and I also had no way to earn money. When I heard from the village TCD committee that there would be meetings to discuss Income Generation and moral principles, I was very excited to join and see what it was about.

When we discussed the TCD lessons about “Not Losing Hope” and “Diligence vs Laziness”, I decided at that moment that I would participate in a pioneering effort to raise ducks in our village for the first time. My family and I can now feel the impact of this program, and my children have a free supply of boiled duck eggs for nutrition. We are filled with thankfulness. Our ducks lay eggs every day and we have a source of food and enough left over to sell for income.”
