Taking the water situation into their own hands, the people of the Tea Garden Cluster are working towards a sustainable solution.
The villagers of Saraswatipur Tea Garden have been suffering from an acute scarcity of drinking water. For years, villagers struggled to meet their daily water needs, relying on a few distant and often unreliable sources. The problem became more severe during the dry season, leaving the community vulnerable to diseases and an uncertain future. A local community leader had installed a water supply facility, but that is currently out of order.
Faced with this pressing challenge, the villagers decided to take action. They approached Anuj, a Transformational Community Development (TCD) trainer, seeking guidance and expertise to address their water crisis. TCD Trainer Anuj listened to their concerns and emphasized the importance of self-reliance and collective effort. He invited Sanjay to come and help them understand that if they want to solve the water crisis, they need to initiate a solution themselves. Inspired by this vision, the villagers began to see the possibility of a sustainable solution within their reach.
Under the guidance of TCD Trainer Anuj, the community held several discussions and decided to form a dedicated Water Committee. This committee, composed of representatives from different sections of the village, took charge of assessing the water crisis and brainstorming potential solutions. They worked together to identify viable options, such as rainwater harvesting and repairing old wells, before building new infrastructure. The first step they planned is to repair the old out-of-order water pump in the village.
Today, thanks to their collective effort and the TCD committee, Saraswatipur Tea Garden stands as a testament to how communities can overcome adversity by working together for a brighter, self-sustained future.
Thank you,
