Safe Water Brings Widow Hope
Helping each other is key to a community successfully developing together.
Kaberi* is a widow living in Dadpur Village, Bangladesh. She has been doing her best to support her small family of two. To provide for herself and her only son, she works as a daily wage laborer in the fields. Her husband passed away a few years ago, and her two daughters are married and living with their own families.
Kaberi’s family had a tubewell for drinking water, but the base around it was not paved. As a result, dirty water used to collect around the tubewell, especially during the rainy season. For a long time, she believed this was normal and did not realize the health risks involved.
Through the Transformational Community Development (TCD) classes, Kaberi learned about safe drinking water and the importance of protecting water sources from contamination. After understanding what a clean and safe water source should look like, she became concerned about the condition of her tubewell. She wanted to ensure that the water her family used every day was 100% pure and safe.
Although Kaberi wished to pave the tubewell platform, she was unable to do so due to a lack of financial resources. The TCD committee stepped in and helped her complete the paving of the tubewell.
Kaberi is deeply grateful to the TCD project for their support and assistance. Today, she is very happy and relieved to have access to clean and safe drinking water for her daily use.
*For the purpose of safety and wellbeing, “Kaberi” is a pseudonym for the individual being helped by this project.
Thank you!
