Education Changes Lives

A woman hated by everyone has now become a self-sustainable inspiration for the community.

Katuwaghat villager, Edha, with her husband, as they work with a large pile of wheat for income generation. - Education Changes Lives

Do you know how difficult it is to survive under the poverty line? No food to eat, no clothes to cover the bodies, no respect from anyone but everybody hates you, and there’s no help from people. One of the Transformational Community Development (TCD) members, Edha,* had a bitter experience with those horrible things. It was a very hard time for her and her family. She had no education and no training. She used to be shy to stand among the people. Her financial status was very poor. She and her family had no land for farming and no family income sources. Because of poverty, no one respected her, and no one wanted to help her.

But the TCD class and teaching changed Elina’s life. Learning the TCD lessons helped her to be strong and face problems in life. TCD helped with seed money, and she raised goats. After that she was able to buy a cow and made a good income by selling milk. TCD taught her to save money, and she followed TCD’s teachings. Because of no land, her family experienced food famines for many years.

Because of TCD’s teaching and help, this season she could lease land and did wheat farming. This month, she harvested wheat that was enough for a year for her family. She and her family were very happy because this is the first time that they harvested wheat, enough for them for a year. Her life changed because of TCD awareness classes, training, monitoring, seed money, etc. She raised her family income sources by goat and cow keeping. And now, leasing land and farming.

She became respected among the community people. She wants to continue TCD classes and encourage others to do TCD. Now her three children are sent to school. Now she and her family are self-sustainable. And we, the TCD team, continue following up with the TCD lessons and training.
