Choosing Peace
Forgiveness and tolerance can empower children to rise above pain and choose peace.
In the heart of Cairo, in the Ezbit el Haggana area of Nasr City, lives a group of Sudanese refugee children who face daily challenges amidst harsh living conditions. However, one child named Ronnie had a unique experience applying a lesson in tolerance and forgiveness he learned in the Transformational Community Development (TCD) classes.
Ronnie was one of the children participating in the TCD classes that focused on the importance of tolerance and forgiveness. Once, Ronnie faced a difficult situation when an Egyptian child bullied and insulted him. However, thanks to the lesson he learned, Ronnie decided not to respond to the insult in kind but instead chose to forgive the child. He didn’t feel anger or resentment but rather felt an inner sense of joy and peace after deciding to forgive.
Ronnie’s experience confirms that tolerance is not merely a religious or moral value but rather a behavior that helps a person maintain inner peace and free themselves from feelings of hatred and anger. Despite the difficulties refugee children face, the ability to forgive opens new horizons for inner peace and joy. In this way, Ronnie has become a living example that tolerance is not only the key to peaceful coexistence but also the secret to psychological comfort and reassurance.
Thank you,
