Learning to Kindly Respond

The Sudanese refugees are finding peace and acceptance in Cairo.

In one of the Transformational Community Development (TCD) lessons about peace and love, Malak, a Sudanese refugee living in Cairo, learned that true peace begins in the heart and with our ability to forgive others. After the lesson, Malak shared, “Last week, I learned to live in peace and love all my friends. I learned that the words “peace” and “love” are not just words, but actions we take. The day after the lesson, when a child made fun of me because of my skin color, I felt sad at first, but I remembered what I learned in the lesson. I decided to forgive him and respond to offense with kindness. I smiled at him and said kind words, and then we became friends. I learned to live in peace through forgiveness, helping others, and sharing what I have with them. Now I feel true happiness.”
