Attieke is a staple food in Cote d’Ivoire made from cassava. When paired with fish, it is an Ivorian delicacy. Some Effaoho families engage in the business of making and selling attieke as a means of making a livelihood. When raw cassava goes through a process of “value addition” in this way, like it is with every raw commodity, it generates higher income for the producer. Attieke sellers are always in business, and the majority earn a steady income from it. However, the story is not the same for Effaoho attieke sellers because they grate cassava manually, which limits their daily production and, invariably, their income.
The producers are beginning to discuss raising funds to buy a processing machine with Teti, our Transformational Community Development (TCD) worker, in order to upscale their products and generate more income. The TCD Income Generation mindset has illuminated vital steps in the process of achieving financial independence for members of the Effaoho community.
Thank you!
