Women are undervalued in poor countries and must work hard to be respected and valued.
“The perception towards daughters is still negative in the rural communities.”
Daya* has seven daughters, but was expected to produce a son for the family. She was mistreated and abused in her family when the number of daughters increased year by year. In addition to that, Daya faced many problems from the family that she shared as she told her story. The great Hope and expectation of her life started when she attended Transformational Community Development (TCD) lessons and started a business selling food items and potatoes by the side of the road after getting seed money from GHNI. Business went well. Daya enrolled her daughters in school. The business helped her manage her family income and send her children to school.
Likewise, Rajini’s* dad died when she was young and she suffered greatly. There were eight members in her family. She was in great trouble when she met Mary, our TCD worker, and was invited to the TCD class. Rajini learned TCD well and started her small business. Business went smoothly and was helpful to the family.
When people saw these women doing something good, then the violence and discrimination against girls decreased. Now there is a big change in the community because of the women’s literacy program and TCD.
Thank you!
