In the village of Binodpur, several families struggle to meet their basic needs through high-risk activities. Many rely on the river and forest for their livelihood, putting their lives in constant danger. Tragically, this month, another family lost its primary earner to a tiger attack while catching crabs. The financial crisis is a severe challenge for the community, leaving families with few safe options to sustain themselves.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the Transformational Community Development (TCD) team initiated efforts to address the economic challenges in Binodpur. The team introduced sustainable livelihood options such as chicken farming, handicraft production, and small businesses. One of the TCD volunteers, Ranjita, embraced these lessons and began implementing them. Her proactive approach inspired others, as she not only practiced TCD principles but also started training fellow villagers in handicraft-making.

Today, significant progress is evident in Binodpur. Seven families are engaged in chicken farming, while nine others are learning to craft mats from palm leaves under Ranjita’s guidance. The community’s confidence is growing, and new initiatives like mushroom cultivation and beekeeping are set to launch in the coming quarter. Through collective effort and innovative solutions, Binodpur is on the path to creating safer, more sustainable livelihoods for its residents.
