Beautiful Bamboo!

Bamboo is a sustainable crop that could be the future of Shri Ambra!

TCD unloading a truckload of bamboo to the Shri Ambra village. - Beautiful Bamboo!

July marked a season of intense farming activity in the village, as it is the peak time for agricultural work. While farming continues to provide daily sustenance, the community realized that it alone may not be enough for long-term financial security. This sparked a conversation with the Transformational Community Development (TCD) worker about more sustainable income-generating activities.

With coaching from the TCD staff, the community identified bamboo cultivation as a new opportunity for growth. They chose a special variety known as Mohali Bamboo, sourced directly from Assam and widely used in handicraft products. This initiative is part of the TCD activities aimed at diversifying livelihoods and promoting future sustainability.

The community believes this bamboo, once mature, can be sold at 15 times the current cost, offering significant economic benefits. To support this project, a local partnership was formed with a nearby NGO, with the community receiving technical and logistical support.

This effort is a clear example of how the community is led by local initiatives and supported by TCD coaching—choosing progress over stagnation and long-term impact over short-term gain.
