Dedication and Cooperation is Key to Success
When faced with a problem, the community representatives came to a preliminary solution.
Our Transformational Community Development (TCD) team conducted a field visit. They planned to follow up on the installation of water filters in Pai communities and found that the project is progressing in a positive direction. The community has been cooperative in using the system, but some issues were identified that require urgent attention, particularly the presence of algae in the storage tanks.
We inspected all three water filtration sites and found varying situations:
- At one site in Pai town, there was a significant buildup of algae in the storage tank.
- At another site, only a small amount of algae was present.
- At the third site, no problems were detected.
Through discussions with community representatives, we reached a preliminary conclusion that the contamination may have been caused by the community cleaning the tank too often or rainwater entering the tank before the system was complete.
To resolve the issue and ensure confidence in the drinking water quality, we worked closely with the community to take immediate action. We began by testing the water using AquagenX kits, which confirmed that the filtered water was clean and safe according to the required standards (tested only at the site without algae). Afterwards, we cleaned all storage tanks and replaced the covers with new, cleaner, and more secure lids (implemented at the sites where algae were found).
This corrective action was taken to ensure that the community has access to clean drinking water as soon as possible. However, to prevent long-term issues, we will continue monitoring and evaluating the results together with the community.
The key to the success of this project has been the dedication and cooperation of the community. We will return for another follow-up next month and remain hopeful that everyone will have consistent access to safe, clean drinking water as intended.
Thank you!
