Learning to Use Their Own Resources Brings Change
Constructing water filtration systems using local resources encouraged villagers to see what else they could do to improve their lives
Building upon last year’s successful initiative to provide clean drinking water to Mool Poo Kao Village, the achievement has generated interest from other communities seeking to improve their access to safe water.
Pai District, located in Mae Hong Son Province, is a well-developed area due to its popularity as a tourist destination, particularly among international visitors. Despite its economic potential, certain Karen communities in the district remain in need of development support.
Our team conducted a community development program in Pai, engaging participants from these distinct groups: a Karen church and a dormitory for Karen students studying in the town. The program included practical training on constructing water filtration systems as well as sessions on community development using the Transformational Community Development (TCD) model.
Community members made full use of their own resources, realizing—many for the first time—that such resources could bring about significant and lasting change. Upon completion of the project, participants expressed great excitement and gratitude for being part of an initiative that not only enhanced their own quality of life but also contributed to the well-being of others.
Thank you!
