Alabu Village, Sudan

In Bomborma, Sierra Leone, GHNI is partnering with local families through Transformational Community Development to secure clean water, expand vaccinations, and create sustainable income through shared processing and improved farming.

In the Nuba Mountains of Sudan, the isolated village of Alabu Moroda is home to displaced families who fled years of persecution, leaving over 2,000 residents struggling with extreme poverty and relying on a single water well. Partnering with a highly influential local Imam as their “person of peace,” GHNI established the Transformational Community Development (TCD) program to foster self-sustainability across the five core elements of TCD: Food, Water, Income Generation, Education, and Wellness. The community has since celebrated major milestones. In 2023, local TCD champion Absalah mobilized the village to transform a struggling, informal nursery class into an organized primary school serving 245 children, with permanent brick walls actively being constructed by early 2025. Furthermore, to alleviate the village’s critical water shortage, the community successfully began drilling a much-needed new water well in December 2025, taking a massive step toward long-term health and development.
