In Binodpur, India, GHNI and local leader Bharat Karmakar are equipping families with sustainable farming, education, and solar solutions to overcome poverty, storms, and isolation near the Bay of Bengal.

Binodpur, an isolated village of over 5,000 residents near the Bay of Bengal, faces extreme challenges including high poverty, a 36% female illiteracy rate, and severe recurring storms that frequently cut off electricity and submerge crops. To foster sustainable change, Global Hope Network International (GHNI) launched a Transformational Community Development (TCD) project led by local worker Bharat Karmakar. Bharat initially served as an honorary teacher and started an affordable tutoring center for struggling students. Expanding his impact, Bharat recently interned at the ECHO Asia Farm in Chiang Mai to study sustainable tropical agriculture. Now back in India, he is setting up a low-cost model farm using container gardening, cow-manure composting, and tree grafting to train local farmers. The community is already putting these lessons into action—establishing household kitchen gardens, starting small poultry businesses, building family toilets, and deploying solar-powered lanterns to maintain light and safety during cyclone blackouts.
